OUGD601: Idea 01 - Practical Developments

Developing 'Vomit' social commentary magazine, featuring fantasy fashion shoots and sections where artists can contribute about social beneficial things. This links to the essay as a mutually beneficial tool for entertaining the audience, and hopefully giving them some form of immersion; as well as also keeping people up to date on current issues, in a more interesting form than a newspaper.

I asked for feedback over the Christmas holidays to come up with the logotype for Vomit. I sent out the below type experiments and concept, along with some questions to designer friends and peers from the BAGD course, as well as discussing on the phone with some...

The feedback received was helpful to decide on the direction for the identity, as the typeface could either juxtapose or enhance the piercing word. Due to the connotations of the word 'vomit', generally being quite disgusting and grim, I could introduce a soft contemporary san-serif typeface, to give a lighter, gentler feel to the word at a first impression. However, feedback makes me feel that emphasising and owning the word will grab the audiences attention more in a bookshop/magazine store location, and act as a curiosity trigger due to the linguistic message behind it.
