Adwoa Aboah was named Model of The Year in the 2017 Fashion Awards, with her face lending its trademark symbolism to the December Vogue cover and more prolifically Jeurgen Teller's Burberry Campaign, which featured Aboah and most of her family. With Aboah art-directing the campaign with her relatives, elemtents of honesty and intimacy come out which are uncommon for high-end fashion advertisements, which are generally quite detached from reality. Here, Aboah is emphasising the real world by shooting in her childhood area of East London, as well as having a laugh and play on camera with her brothers.
Clad in the Burberry print, the styling and communication within the image reflects the brand without a logo - the print is acting as their logo and therefore coding the image with Burberry, in-intentionally like an advertising message (Barthes)
Her innumerable magazine covers come only second to Gurls Talk - the online platform founded by Adwoa which encourages women to openly talk about mental health, diversity and addiction among other things, to redresses fears and worries that they're alone.
By introducing her family as other models, a genuine connection is evident to the viewers with playfulness and love coming from the images.
