OUGD601: Planning the Practical 01

After the COP 2 lecture with Fred Bates, I started considering the relationship between theory and practice. By undergoing epistemology and practice simultaneously we can generate practical ideas, generate more evolved concepts and investigate processes first hand, ultimately leading to a better research investigation.

Possible practical/design outcomes

  1. Fashion editorial to inform 2057 about 2017
  2. Fashion editorials using the signifieds of successful magazines
  3. Adapt Roland Barthes's theories to the modern day 'dress' and produce an editorial
  4. Put on an exhibition to celebrate now (taking photography off the page)
  5. Produce a magazine for now looking into subcultures and identities through image and journalism
  6. Editorial about 'real history'
  7. Editorial to educate people about the differences of magazines, social media and the real world.

Investigate the biggest things of 2017 (this can be anything, fashion, politics, music, television, film, quotes, words, memes, social satires, movements, incidents...)

 Donald Trump inauguration   #notmypresident

- post-brexit
- NHS Cuts
- Natural disasters across the world
- Terrorist actions (show no fear and unite)
- Increases in diversity and LGBTQ equality

After asking people for feedback, exploring the key events of 2017 will be useful in constructing the projects- especially for planning shoots.
